Do Birds and Nature Interest You?
We invite you to be a part of a community that values and protects birds and our natural world

Founded in 1949, Tucson Audubon Society is southern Arizona’s leading non-profit engaging people in the conservation of birds and their habitats. With your support, we involve people through recreational birding, extend their horizons through education programs, and engage them in conservation actions from planting trees and counting birds, to working with local, state, and national policy makers.

There are many ways you can support Tucson Audubon. Please join us and make a difference for birds and your quality of life, right here in southeast Arizona!

Tucson Audubon Society is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our tax ID# is 86-6053779

WORKING TOGETHER TO PROTECT LOCAL BIRDS – Winter Appeal

Tucson Audubon began a formal program to study the nesting habits of the West’s only cavity-nesting warbler in 2015. Due to extensive loss of native mesquite habitat, Lucy’s Warbler nesting opportunities have declined. In an effort to provide this vulnerable species with new breeding opportunities, staff and volunteers designed and built more than a thousand tiny boxes. Our team further observed the species using both saguaro holes and the peeling bark of mesquite trees to create nests with two points of entry and exit. This lead to the creation of innovative, dual-entrance nestboxes—and a conservation breakthrough! Learn more about the program.

At a time when it can seem impossible to protect a tiny migratory bird like Lucy’s Warbler, it’s uplifting to achieve conservation success. In 2018 more than 200 Lucy’s Warblers were successfully fledged from our nestboxes. Even more encouraging is the number of birders and non-birders, homeowners, business operators, and non-profit partners who are eager to make a difference for this species. Your contributions to Tucson Audubon’s winter appeal make cutting edge projects like this possible. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Tucson Audubon’s Carbon Offset Bird Project

Participating in a carbon offset program is one way that we can mitigate the effects of our automobile and air travel and will allow us to do the most good for birds. Donations will be used by Tucson Audubon to create, improve, or restore valuable bird habitat at sites we are are currently working at, including, but not limited to – the Mason Center, Paton Center for Hummingbirds, and the Historic Y. Offsetting one ton of carbon in this scenario provides either 10 shrubs, 20 pollinator plants, or 40 grasses.
