Engaging Youth with Birding
Trekking Rattlers Birding and Hiking Club at Billy Lauffer Middle School
Since 2013, Tucson Audubon has been partnering with Inner City Outings to offer the students at Billy Lauffer Middle School an opportunity to get outdoors and explore ! The outings occur once a month and any Lauffer Middle School student and their family members can attend.
This year, over 100 students participated in the outings and experienced the fall colors atop Mt. Lemmon and in Ramsey Canyon, played in the snow-melt pools of Sabino Canyon’s Seven Falls, hiked to the top of Wasson Peak, explored Cienega Creek, Catalina State Park, and Aravaipa Canyon.
Kids Birding the Parks Series (monthly)
Next event: March 25 | 10:00 AM to noon
Spring Migration: This month we’ll search for birds that have just arrived in Tucson. These birds spend the summer building nests and raising families! Hummingbirds? Warblers? Who knows which birds may show up!
Join local bird guides from Tucson Audubon Society for our Kids Birding the Parks event! Younger children, ages 4-7, will explore birds through storytelling and crafts (must be supervised). Older kids (8-17) will use binoculars and go on a bird adventure with our guides in the park.
