Save the Clean Water Act

Comments due April 15th, 2019.

Water is life and in Arizona this fact is especially important.

Water in Arizona means more than the image of a running river. Water means our ephemeral washes, wetlands and lakes. Water is all connected. When we limit protections to only ‘navigable waters’ we put all of our waters at risk.

The EPA’s proposes Waters of the United States Rule is not only a huge step back but threatens safe and clean water for ALL Arizonans. We could lose protections for over 90% of our waterways. Your comments, stories and concerns are critically important.

Some points you could touch on:

– While over 90% of our waterways do not run all year round, 80% of our bird and wildlife species use these waterways at some point in their lives. Just because we cannot always see, running water does not diminish the ecological value of intermittent and ephemeral waters.
– Our waterways are connected. What enters our water at the surface as the potential to pollute waters across the region. We need safe drinking water. With rising concerns over emerging water contaminants, clean water is a public health and safety priority.
– Strong clean water protections mean a strong economy. Water means security in Arizona. Residents need to know their lands and homes are protected and water is clean and safe. Our vibrant ecosystems draw tourists to spend millions in Arizona every year. Our water is uniquely tied to our economy.

Most important is your own story. How has clean water impacted you, good or bad? How is your drinking water quality? Do your streets flood with storm-water? Do you recreate outside near water, seen or unseen? Tell your story today.
