West Slopes of the Chiricahuas Expedition with Luke Safford

Saturday, June 28: West Slopes of the Chiricahuas Expedition, 4am – 7pm

$50/member, $100/non-member

Trip Difficulty: Moderate to Hard. We will walk on some trails that may have elevation gain and some rocky/rooted footing. All day trip can be tiresome, so be prepared. Our pace is slow though and the majority of the time will not be strenuous.

This will be a full day field trip, we’ll plan to leave super early (4am) and make the most of our day in the wild Chiricahua Mountains, arriving back in Tucson around 6pm. As of this posting we will plan to explore Turkey Creek, including Johnny Ringo’s gravesite, Sycamore Campground and the old Crescent-chested Warbler stakeout hotspot. We’ll have lunch up at the top and walk some of the trails and roads in the area. On the way back we’ll stop in Willcox at Cochise Lake and add to our bird species list. Bathrooms may be scarce but there should be an outhouse at Sycamore Campground. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen, everything you need to be comfortable for the day. We will need a couple folks to help drive.
