Cox Communications Email Problem

Problem: Some Tucson Audubon Society volunteers, members, and donors are not receiving email from Tucson Audubon Society staff members.

Who is affected: If you use Cox Communications as your email provider (if you have an email address that ends in @cox.net), you are affected. If you have emailed a staff member sometime in the past 6-8 months and not received a response in a reasonable amount of time, this is likely the cause. Please note that this usually happens when an individual staff member is communicating with you as an individual, so even if you have received mass emails from us recently (such as the volunteer email or Saturday update), you could still be affected by this issue.

What to do to fix the problem:

  • First you must change your default spam settings.
    • Go to Basic Settings from your main Cox email inbox (you must do this from here and not from external email servers such as Outlook)
    • Expand Inbox under Basic Settings and select Spam settings

  • You will see three options:
    • No Spam filtering
    • Automatically deliver to Spam folder
    • Delete spam messages without delivering to Inbox
  • Select “Automatically deliver to Spam folder”
  • Once you’ve changed your default spam settings, you can check your spam folder for emails from us.
    • Please note that the spam folder will not include anything that was sent a long time ago, so if you are missing an email from us that was sent over 6 months ago, it likely won’t be there.
  • You can now mark e-mails from us as “not spam.” Please note that you may need to do this multiple times and that you may need to repeat the process for different staff members.

  • If you want to help us out, Cox has stated the following:
    • “If the Junk Email Filtering identifies an email as spam but you believe it is not, you can submit this to Cox as well. We will then work with our vendors to ensure that this type of email is not flagged in the future. This is known as a false positive. To submit a false positive, send it to ThisIsNotSpam@cox.net.”
      •  Note: All suspect and false positive emails must be forwarded as an attachment.
