Acorn Woodpecker by Dan Weisz

Difficulty: Moderate (Some walking on mild slopes, and possibly rocky/uneven surfaces. Drive time to location approximately 85 minutes)

We’ll combine birding and wine tasting in the Sulphur Springs Valley, but first we’ll visit Cochise Stronghold, a historic location on the east slopes of the Dragoon Mountains. Here we’ll look for birds of the oak grasslands like Acorn Woodpecker, Ash-throated Flycatcher, and Mexican Jay. Nearby, Cochise Lake offers an opportunity for exciting shorebirds and waterfowl, along with possibly Scaled Quail and Chihuahuan Meadowlark. Birds and Barrels, a local winery, will host us at their vineyard where we’ll have a wine tasting and packed lunch. Limited to 8 participants.
