Create Wildlife-friendly Spaces in our New Habitat at Home Workshops

Spring is here! Join us at one of our new Habitat at Home Workshops and learn how to create a wildlife-friendly habitat in your own yard. This 5-part workshop series is being held at the Santa Rita Springs Green Valley Recreation Center (921 W. Via Rio Fuerte, Green Valley MAP) on Wednesdays from 10–12 in the Anza Room.

These hands-on workshops are free to the public! No sign-up necessary.

March 18 – Backyard Ecology: Realizing Your Home’s Potential for Wildlife
Do you want to attract more wildlife to your yard, but don’t know where to start? We will give you the tools to evaluate your existing habitat and provide insight on how to maximize it.

March 25 – Plants for SE Arizona: Selecting Plants to Meet Your Habitat Goals
We will help you navigate the realm of native plants so that you find the right plants for your yard. Meet a few of our favorites, learn some pro planting tips and leave with new resources to help you create a palette unique to your goals.

April 1 – Irrigation: An Introduction to Rainwater Harvesting and Drip Systems
Quality habitat begins with irrigation. Keep your plants thriving with rainwater harvesting or learn to supplement with drip systems. Learn repairs and how to prevent the need for them with appropriate design and layout.

April 8 – Shelter and Water: Meeting all the Needs of Your Backyard Visitors
Complete your habitat by providing water and shelter. We will be providing instruction on the various types of nest boxes and keeps suitable to our local birds and pollinators. Explore your options for water features and how to maintain them.

April 15 – Pollinator Gardens: A Guide to Pollinator Conservation in Your Backyard
Pollinator conservation is the conservation of the landscapes that surround us. We will explore how you can support and sustain the variety of pollinators that are native to SE Arizona. Learn about their specific needs for food, shelter, nesting and water, all while creating a beautiful space in your backyard.
