Volunteer at the Festival

Tucson Audubon volunteers are the driving force behind the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival!

In 2019 over 75 volunteers gave over 800 hours to help with planning, registration, packing food, greeting, driving vans, playing with kids, setting up A/V, and so much more. This year, we’ll need your help more than ever!

We have several volunteer opportunities available. Training will be provided for all positions, but basic familiarity with the requirements of the job is important:

A/V assistance (opening celebration) This position will help with the audio/visual equipment set up for the opening celebration. It will require comfort with A/V equipment such as projectors, microphones, and speakers.
Family Birding at Sweetwater Greeter This position will help us with our Family Birding at Sweetwater event. Greeters will greet attendees as they arrive at Sweetwater and help direct them to the different activities.
Family Birding at Sweetwater Host This position will help us with our Family Birding at Sweetwater event. Hosts will be stationed around the path in order to point out birds and wildlife to attendees as they walk around.
Family Birding at Sweetwater Table Leader This position will help us with our Family Birding at Sweetwater event. Table leaders will run activity stations set up all along the path and facilitate one of several youth-oriented activities and educational lessons.
Morning Van Crew This position loads the vans used for field trips with coolers, snack boxes, etc., checks to make sure vans are in working order, and helps greet and guide folks upon arrival to their appropriate field trip leader.
Nature Shop Booth Assistant This position will entail helping run the Tucson Audubon Nature Shop booth during the Nature Expo, including assisting with attendees wanting to purchase items. Current or past Nature Shop volunteers with experience in the store are preferred.
Van Greeter, Clean-up, Re-fueling, Prep Crew This position will help greet vans upon their return from field trips, clean the interiors and ensure they are prepared for the next trip, refuel the vans, and park them in the appropriate spots.
Virtual Presentation Assistant This position will host the virtual events held during the festival. If you’ve been to any of our virtual events this year, then this job would essentially be you taking the role that Luke normally takes. This means you’d open the Zoom session, introduce guests to the Zoom platform and give some quick how-to’s, introduce the guest speaker, and then monitor the chat while the speaker presents and moderate discussions/questions at the appropriate time. We will make sure you have all of the information and training needed beforehand, but it would definitely be helpful if you’ve seen Luke in action before and if you’re comfortable hosting Zoom events.
Counter This position entails standing at a post near the entrance of the Nature Expo at the DoubleTree and using a handheld clicker to count guests as they enter.
Greeter This position will entail greeting guests and directing them to the appropriate place as they enter the DoubleTree hotel.
Nature Expo Liaison This position will walk around the Nature Expo and ensure that our vendors and exhibitors are taken care of, including handing out some water and snacks and answering any questions they may have.
Registration This position will help register attendees when they first arrive at the festival as well as answering questions and directing attendees.
Set-up/Break Down This position will help with set-up or break down of festival items such as tables, chairs, signs, etc. It will also include helping exhibitors.
Tucson Audubon Table This position will be stationed at the Tucson Audubon table at the Nature Expo and will answer any questions from attendees about the organization, our mission, programs, etc. This position will also include selling memberships, so it will involve taking and processing payment.

Once you’ve read the position descriptions, please click here to sign up for the remaining volunteer slots that are open. Note: If you have already signed up for a position at a specific date/time AND received confirmation from our volunteer coordinator, please do not sign up again.

Keep in mind that this schedule is still somewhat adaptable and there may need to be some shifting after the initial wave of volunteer sign-ups depending on remaining openings and volunteer needs. Thank you so much for helping us make this festival possible!
