Santa Cruz River Flood Control 2018

Looking across the Santa Cruz river to the SW toward A mountain
A Pima County Flood Control project to remove 90,000 cubic yards of sediment begins the week of 4/30/18. The project should take between 4 – 6 weeks and aims to reduce flood risk to properties along the river. The first stretch of the project will work between Grant and Speedway. Tucson Audubon has been involved with discussions with Flood Control over protecting areas of native vegetation, avoiding nesting birds, and relocation species as needed.
