El Rio Open Space Preserve

Registration for this trip is free. Register here beginning on Saturday, Nov 12, 7:00 AM.

Trip difficulty: Easy 2 mile / 3 km loop mostly on graded or paved paths with some off-trail excursions for wetlands viewings. Trip duration: 2.5 hours. Restroom and water available.

Let’s go birding at Marana’s El Rio Preserve, reclaimed from the former Coachline gravel quarry, and see what late fall has brought us. Starting at the SW viewing platform, next to the parking lot, we’ll look for water and shorebirds, and then walk the path around the wetlands preserve area through a variety of habitats. A spotting scope will be available, but Rio has a great viewing platform from which we’ll start, so if you have your own scope, it would be welcome as well.
