Birding Holy Trinity Monastery and the Benson STP with Marie Davis
Friday, May 3, 2024 – 7:15-11:45am
Trip Difficulty: Easy/Moderate. About 2 miles total, walking on dirt paths.
St. David is home to the Holy Trinity Monastery, a beautiful birding hotspot. We’ll start our walk at 8am around the grounds, which have a few picturesque ponds. We’ll also walk their birding trail, which leads to the San Pedro River. Typical desert and water birds are expected, with migrants possible.
Afterwards, we’ll stop by the Gift Shop, which opens at 10am, where you can purchase some baked goods (if you want).
Finally, we’ll swing by the Benson STP (wastewater treatment plant) to find some more desert and water birds.
We should return to our meeting place in Vail around 11:45am. Details will be emailed a few days before the trip.
Wear good walking shoes, bring binoculars, water, snacks, and money (if you plan to purchase anything from the gift shop). Limited to 10 participants.
