IBA Species Profile: Chestnut-collared Longspurs and Winter Grassland Surveys with Jennie MacFarland

Registration for this virtual event is free.

The grasslands of Southeast Arizona are full of birds in the winter. For over 10 years Arizona IBA has surveyed the Chihuahuan Desert Grasslands habitats of Las Cienegas NCA IBA and San Rafael Grasslands IBA with a focus on Chestnut-collared Longspurs. These fascinating birds look like sparrows but are actually very different and related to Snow Buntings. We will discuss the life history of this steeply declining species and what our surveys have found over the years.
