Las Cienegas & Empire Ranch with Luke Safford
Las Cienegas & Empire Ranch, Friday, Aug 30th, 6:00am – 12:00pm
$35/member, $50/non-member
Trip Difficulty: Moderate. We’ll try to walk down in the gulch near the ranch, but there isn’t much of a trail there and includes a short steep incline up and down into the gulch. About 1-2 miles
walking around the ranch, but the rest of the birding will be near the vehicles.
We’ll check out fall migration in Las Cienegas while also looking for those breeding birds that prefer the monsoons, including Botteri’s and Cassin’s Sparrows. Fall migration can be pretty good in the cottonwood gallery near the ranch so the majority of our time will be spent here looking for flycatchers, tanagers, warblers, and buntings. Meet at the Empire Ranch parking area at 6am and we’ll finish up before noon. Limited to 10 participants.
