Ladder-backed Woodpecker by Shawn Cooper

McDonald Park

Registration for this trip is free. Register here beginning Nov 12, 7:00 AM.

Trip difficulty: easy, paved trail, restrooms, water fountains, abundant parking.

We will start at 0800. Beginning birders will find this trip a good introduction to our local birds. This park is welcoming to participants with mobility concerns who prefer enhanced accessibility. Along with accessible parking and bathrooms the park has about a mile of paved trail with just a few gentle slopes that travels through desert scrub, palms and willows. Anna’s, Costa’s, and Broad-billed Hummingbirds, Vermilion Flycatcher, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and Phainopepla are a few of the birds we might see. Bring water and a hat. Wrap up at 0930.

Driving directions: McDonald Park is a Pima County park, located on Harrison Road just north of the Catalina Highway. Please meet at the small parking lot immediately adjacent to Harrison Road. This parking lot is south of the main park entrance.
