Mt. Lemmon–Rose Canyon and Lake with Scott Crabtree
Registration fee: $35/member, $50/non-member*
Trip difficulty: Moderate. Starting from the parking area on Gen’l Hitchcock Hwy at the entrance to the camping area, our trip will be four miles round-trip on paved and gravel roads, and some dirt trails that can be rocky in places. The trip is at over 7000 feet in elevation with a 250 foot elevation differential. Drinking water and restrooms may be available, depending on the status of the campgrounds.
Join Scott Crabtree for an exploration of Mt. Lemmon’s Rose Canyon campgrounds and Lake area. The camping crowds should have thinned out, so we’ll explore the higher altitude coniferous forest habitats and lake for any lingering migrants and winter arrivals. Interesting hawks, woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches, and finches can be expected, but we’ll be checking out every exciting bird!
Expect a cold start with temperatures climbing in the course of the morning. Bring your best optics, appropriate footwear, snacks and beverages. Final meet-up instructions will be emailed to participants. Limited to 8 participants.
