Secret Lives of Lucy’s Warblers: Tucson Audubon’s Research of an Enigmatic Cavity Nester with Olya Weekley

This event is free to attend. No registration required.

Lucy’s Warblers are one of only two cavity-nesting warblers in the United States and a species of Conservation Concern. Due to their small breeding range and elusive behavior this species is much understudied and previously unknown to use nestboxes, unlike other secondary cavity-nesters. Tucson Audubon has been studying Lucy’s Warbler nesting needs using innovative techniques since 2016. We designed a nestbox style that they will readily use and armed with this knowledge we were able to study some of the other little known facts of their life history such as nest placement, phenology and natal distribution. Join Olya Weekley to learn more about our work and the conservation impact of our findings.
