Whitewater Draw: Wintering Waterfowl & Raptors

Registration fee: $35/member, $50/non-member.* Register here beginning on Nov 12, 7 AM.

Trip difficulty: Easy, 1-2 miles on flat dirt paths. Restrooms (port-a-potties) available. No water available. Little to no shade available.

We’ll head down to Whitewater Draw to watch the Sandhill Cranes which winter in the Sulphur Springs Valley by the thousands. Along with the cranes there should be a good number of waterfowl and raptors to keep our eyes out for too. We’ll have a scope with us, but feel free to bring your own if you have one. Please bring binoculars, plenty of water, snacks, lunch, and sun protection and dress in layers. On the way back to Tucson, we’ll stop at a couple of eBird hotspots to nab a few more wintering grassland species. We’ll plan to be back in town by 4 PM. Carpooling can be arranged for participants who wish or you may meet the group on site. Limited to 12 participants.

Leaders: Kirsten Howe and Scott Crabtree
